Who is celebrating the arrival of cooler weather and of course, all things pumpkin spice! I have! And I’ve also started looking at fall fashion trends to curate my wardrobe for this season. And when I look at what’s hot, it’s clear that the fashion world has turned 180 degrees away from comfy matching sets and oversized pieces, to structured, tailored and classic chic styles.
Let’s dive into a few fantastic wearable pieces I’ve seen on the runways, and as always, a few styling tips for my petite ladies!
Reign of Relaxed Denim: Loose-Fit and Wide Leg
Let’s start with one of our favorite categories – denim! We’ve already seen a dramatic shift away from the skinny jean, and it’s clear that loose-fit denim is still the name of the game this fall, with wide-leg jeans leading the charge.
Wide-leg Jeans: This fashion-forward style is trending in all washes, but medium and light-to-medium washes are the most popular. But how do you know which one will look good on you? It depends on your particular body shape, and the key is your hips!
- If you have curvy hips – Pick pants that are more slimming and skimming at the waist with fabric that has stretch and follows the lines of your curves.

Other Loose-Fit Styles: Beyond wide-leg jeans, other loose-fit styles to try are parachute pants, cargo pants, carpenter jeans, harmen pants, and loose paper trousers.
Trench Coats: Timeless Elegance Meets Modern Twist
Trench coats have traditionally had a vintage feel. But this year, designers are transforming the classic coat’s silhouette, colors, and even fabric in fresh ways.
- Leather trench coats: Among the standout outerwear trends for 2023 are leather trench coats. Edgy and luxurious, they’ll keep you stylishly warm while making a bold statement.
- Vinyl trench coats: A change from the classic model in beige cotton, a slick vinyl version is a great blend of retro and modern.
- Fur details in pockets and trimmings: Keep an eye out for trench coats with fur accents in pockets and trimmings. You can experiment with different belts to reinvent this timeless piece.
- Cropped Trench Coat: A playful spin to the classic trench coat is the cropped trench, which will transition well from summer to fall, and would be a great staple for next spring too!
I’m sticking with my classic version, but I’ll definitely be playing with different belt options!
Back to Basics: Classic Staples That Never Go Out of Style
My classic ladies, if you’re not already loving this year’s fall fashion trends, I bet you will soon! Designers are emphasizing the classics this fall, so this is a great year to stock up on the best quality staples you can find in your budget. Some pieces worth mentioning are:
- White Shirts: A crisp white shirt is a versatile must-have. You can pair it with jeans, leather pants, or tuck it into a full skirt for effortless chic.
- Denim Delight: We talked about wide-leg jeans above, but grab a good pair of jeans that make you feel and look amazing!
- The Little White Dress: Don’t pack away your summer whites just yet. Transition to fall with a little white dress that’s easy to layer and accessorize.
- Trouser-esque Leggings: For the ultimate blend of comfort and style, opt for trouser-like leggings. These are perfect for both formal or semi-casual events.
- Plain White Tees: Style hack – grab a pack of men’s Hane’s crewneck undershirts and wear them under blazers with jeans for a quick, polished look.
Kitten Heels: Fashion Meets Function
A personal favorite of mine – these shoes are beloved because they are easier to wear and gentler on your feet while giving you a little boost.
From booties, mary janes, to pumps, kitten heels are a fall trend that’s in stores in all varieties for you to choose from! This is another great staple that you can wear for many seasons to come.
