Hot & New Spring/Summer Trends: How I Updated My Closet

We’re wrapping up our spring/summer trend series, and today I want to show you how I’ve incorporated some of the new spring/summer trends into my closet as a midlife woman. 

First, let me share one major mistake my petite women make when they’re trying to update their wardrobe. 

They see the trend and buy some things that catch their eye. But they don’t really know how to wear their pieces and they just don’t fit their lifestyle. 

The result? Even more stuffed closets.

So, what is the key? 

Having a roadmap – your style words! These style words are your map and vision. 

Every piece you curate should fit at least three of your style words. 

My style words – the way I want to feel and what I want to project with my style are: 

1. Bold (adding more color to my style)
2. Sophisticated
3. High-end
4. Inspirational 
5. Industry leader 

With these words in mind, here is what I’ve curated as part of my spring/summer capsule (see video above for more details):  

• Black Patent Leather Mary Janes
• Red: Red flats, tote bag, designer sweatshirt  
• Bold Sunglasses
• Netted/Knit Purse
• Shimmer/metallics: Lime green sequin tank, metallic pink tank, shimmery striped top 
• Lady-jacket Style Vest 
• Longer Shorts: Trouser shorts, black linen bermuda shorts 
• Leather: Leather leggings 
• Rosette and Sheer Black Sweater 
• Blue Dress 
• Hudson Flare Jeans (more flattering for my triangle/pear shape than wide leg jeans)

Each of these items fit at least three of my style words and are great for my regular activities. 

By figuring out your style words and then filling your closet with pieces that match them, you can navigate trends like a pro. You’ll avoid impulse shopping and every item you pick out will fit perfectly into your style story. No more overstuffed closets. Just clothes you love and will wear all the time.
