Closet Clean Out
TRUE OR FALSE? Styles always come back “in” so I should hang onto ________?
Are you hanging onto pieces in your closet because you LOVE them and you just know they will eventually come back in style.
I’ve got a navy peacoat waiting in the back of the coat closet just dying to be worn….
Technically, things DO come back in style . . . BUT they are always a little different with an updated spin.
The exact same thing doesn’t really come back again.
SO, if you haven’t worn it in a year it’s time to let go.
The item isn’t getting any younger.
You’re not getting any younger.
Even if it does come around, do you really want to wear it?
Can you fit back into it?
Caveat: if it’s very classic, super simple = you can’t really tell when it was made
AND
you still wear it occasionally –keep it.
ONLY IF it still fits well and looks good on you.
OR IF
-It was an investment piece that has significant value
-Is a special memory with sentimental value
Then, put it in the back of your closet or a special place.
TO SUMMARIZE: Things you no longer wear, aren’t classic enough to tell when it was made, and don’t fit —
unless they are an investment piece that holds sentimental value – I recommend letting it go.
Do styles ever TRULY come back in?
I’m going to vote false, because unless it’s a classic and timeless piece, things never really come back. Soooooo, if it’s sitting in your closet because you’re waiting for it to come back AND you fit it . . .
Either start wearing it or let it go.
Back to the navy peacoat. I haven’t worn it in about 3 years. It’s pretty classic, but not 100% comfy. So it’s going.

I find your Posts helpful. I am going through radiation for breast cancer, and I am looking to clean out my closet and drawers. I usually read them the next day, Monday. Thank you for all the information.

Replay— it is so rewarding to have insight from a petite professional. As a petite person I can’t wear everything that is showing these days. Even going to the petite department doesn’t always work, many times the style falls short, especially as a 74yr old lady. Sometimes styles are old and frumpy looking. Thank you for helping. How often do you have a video?
