POP OF RED BLAZER — I was thrilled when I found this red blazer on sale last month on Old Navy online. It was slightly too wide so I took it to a tailor and now it fits perfectly! This is a great example of a budget outfit. The black jeans sat in storage last year, but I’ve decided to pull them out for one last season. (They are starting to fade at the knees.) A pair of black slimming jeans never gets old! The tee shirt is from Nordstrom Rack, the clutch from Target last winter and the leopard scarf from the thrift shop. My closet has been devoid of black heels for who knows how long so I finally headed across the street to DSW and bought a pair.
The chain necklace (bottom pictures) is a classic style I bought several years ago from JCrew Factory.

COMMENT OF THE WEEK:
“My style is a comfy sweater and scarf with a pair of well loved jeans and booties! Shannon, I love your scarf and how you tied it. Could you do a scarf tutorial on how you tied it? A scarf is a classic and timeless piece of art to an otherwise ordinary outfit!” NANCY
A special thank you to everyone who shared their go-to outfit with us on last weeks post MY STYLE UNIFORM! I enjoyed reading every comment and getting ideas. Dear Nancy, I honestly can’t remember how I tied my scarf. I think I tied it around my neck twice and then folded one of the ends over both loops. One of these days, I need to figure out how to make a video. Maybe by Christmas time I can put something together. 😉

I love everything you style and Have the black jeans and red blazer but never put them together, so thank you! I have a new fall outfit! I would not go with the clutch personally — but otherwise, its spot on!

I’m with you on the clutch. Not my favorite, but I had to shop my closet for this outfit and as a mom on a budget, I really didn’t have anything spectacular to go with it – so I went with what I had. I decided to run with a glam theme…leopard and sequins. 😉 xx-S

Love this outfit and was able to shop my closet YEAH!! I also thought it would look nice with my black pencil skirt for church on Sunday… Thank you so much for the post!
Shannon says
I LOVE the idea of swapping out the jeans for a pencil skirt!!! Kudos to you. I will just have to try that for church on a Sunday too. xx-S

I absolutely love this outfit on you!! You look beautiful! Love that it is put together in a budget friendly way and that you shopped your own closet, also. That really helps those of us who have to be on a tight budget. You CAN be fashionable on a budget! AND shopping your own closet is really a bargain!! This blazer is really a deal at Old Navy. Do you mind saying what size you ordered?
You always look so put together and beautiful! Thanks for sharing with us. God’s blessings to you and your family.

Thank you Debbie. I got a size small petite. The shoulders in the extra small petite are too narrow but the sides in the small are too wide. So it’s best to fit the shoulders and tailor in the small. I also happen to have long arms and often petite sizes have short arms. I was thrilled the sleeeves worked for me on this one. I’m short waisted so I try both petite and regular sized tops to see which one fits better. This blazer is Old Navy quality, and since I will wear it a lot, I’m not sure what shape it will be in for next year. I’m ok with it since it was such a low price. 😉 xx-S

Thank you Melissa. I keep the necklace in the pouch it came with and keep forgetting I have it. It’s a classic piece you can keep forever! xx-S

Really cute! I appreciate that you had it altered…. bad fit cheapens any outfit it seems. It makes it obvious it was a sale purchase instead of something perfect. You’re lucky to have found a good seamstress. I find it hard and time consuming to look for jeans so when I find ones I like I take care to make them last as long as possible. Black ones are the worst for losing their colour, but I keep mine looking great by adding coffee to the rinse water (good tip for all blacks) and giving them the old Rit dye job when that no longer works. This is a great versatile outfit for so many reasons!
Shannon says
Teresa, I love this tip on pouring coffee to the rinse water. I’ve been considering doing a dye job. Do you have any tips? It sounds really messy, but I would love to give it a go. Thank you so much for sharing and contributing your fashion wisdom to our community! xx-S

This is one of my favorite looks of yours!! The red blazer is the perfect shade and will be a fabulous look for the holidays. I also love how you paired it with the chunky gold chain necklace.

Thanks Ivy! That means a lot coming from someone who is a professional stylist!! xx-S
Lori says
Love this outfit and every one you post and I love red! Wish I could pull this off…..don’t think blazers lay quite right on the busty which I am….
Shannon says
Thank Lori, you might want to consider an open front blazer that isn’t meant to be buttoned closed. A style like the THEORY Lanai stretch blazer made of wool and crepe. The angular style can be flattering on a busty figure. Caslon, by Nordstrom, also has a cotton knit open front blazer for $59. xx-S

I love this!!!! I’m having such a hard time finding a blazer that fits well. I’m not going to give up. Thanks for sharing.
Shannon says
Thank you Jayne. I’m so glad you stopped by. Don’t give up on your search. Also, consider how altering can be a good solution to making a perfect fit. Buy to fit the widest part (shoulders, etc.) of your body and then alter the rest. Make sure to take it to a tailor to check they can work with it before you cut the tags. xx-S
