GINGHAM & SLIM JEANS – I love the classic look of these slim jeans! Apparently, this is “the” style all the women in Paris wear – cigarette pants. Cigarette pants are essentially straight leg pants. As much as us Americans are obsessed with skinny jeans, straight leg pants are more universally flattering. Mine are from LOFT outlet several years ago. You can easily dress them up with a classic top like this gingham button up. I’ve had this one about 5 years from Target. Macy’s has one that looks identical.
I also love this statement necklace from my friend Ann at Duct Tape and Denim – she has fabulous home decor ideas and sells jewelry. She’s been so gracious to give us a special discount using the code: GAMINE to receive 20% off your first purchase. This outfit would look stunning in a colored necklace like coral, red or emerald.
I learned a cool trick from my friend Melissa. Use a clear plastic hairband instead of tieing a knot! It works great – especially if you don’t have enough extra fabric to tie a cute knot!

COMMENT OF THE WEEK:
“Can you share information about that great handbag, please?” ROSE
Thank you for your comment on the Comfy Chic Day Dress from last week Rose. The red ladylike handbag was handed down to me from a friend. It’s a copy of the famous Herme Birkin bag. The classic lines and simple design are beautiful and timeless.
PLEASE SHARE: What is your favorite ladylike bag?

This is so adorable and put together! The way you’ve styled the gingham top really gives it a chic look. Would you mind sharing about your lip color?
Shannon says
Yes. I’m so sorry I forgot to add the lipstick link for this post. It’s Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in “Fiery.” It dries in a lovely matte finish. I get a lot of compliments on it in person. There are several gorgeous colors to choose from so I suggest going to Sephora and trying them on to find a color you love. xx-S

I think you have the best fashion blog out there. You always look great. To do so with older, thrifted, gifted items is truly inspiring.
Shannon says
Wow, that was the kindest compliment I’ve received. I’m so blessed to have such gracious readers. Thank you so much!! xoxo-Shannon

While I am not in your age group (I’m 54) I sooooo appreciate your consideration of budget AND your classic taste. Everything I’ve seen you style is classic, and yet still trendy. That, in my opinion, is the best stewardship of your resources, when you buy/use pieces that don’t go out of style after one season. Great job! I love your blog!
Shannon says
Thank you so much Glenda! I’m really honored to have you as part of our community. I firmly believe we can look modest, put together, classy and fashionable without having to spend a lot of money all the time. xoxo-Shannon

Hi there Shannon,
I am buying the statement necklace. I put in the discount code and it would not accept it. Do you know why, there are only 4 left and I do not wait to long. I love your blogs

Hi Sharon, I will contact Ann to make sure we iron out the discount code problem! Thanks for letting me know. I will get back to you when I hear from her! xx-S
Shannon says
Hi Sharon. Ann fixed the link so I hope you were able to get the discount. 😉

This was SOOO encouraging to me, Shannon! It is great to know that we don’t have to get rid of favorite clothing pieces just because they are old:-) Could you give some tips on thrift store shopping? It seems like every time I come home with a thrift store purchase, the item has a major flaw or rip I did not see, or has a funny smell. I LOVE your blog! Patty
Shannon says
Thank you so much Patty. Yes I’ve been wanting to jot down some notes on thrift shopping. 🙂 xx-S
