Looking for a way to stay warm this fall without giving up style or comfort? Then layering is going to be your stylish fall friend! This, week I’m sharing some great tips for petites to help you make the most of your fall layering this season:
1. Start with a Fitted Base Layer: Create a sleek foundation to your outfit with a fitted base layer. For example, look for clothes like a lightweight, long-sleeve top or a camisole. And if you’re in a very cold climate, stores like Uniqlo have great light-weight thermal pieces that will keep you toasty without adding bulk!
2. Consider Proportions: Pay attention to the proportion of your layers. If you’re wearing looser or longer outer layers, balance them with more fitted pieces underneath to avoid looking overwhelmed.
3. Vertical Lines: Vertical lines, such as V-neck tops or cardigans, can create the illusion of height. Try these to elongate your frame.
4. Monochromatic Looks: Look taller by wearing a single color from head to toe can create a streamlined look. If you do choose different colors, try to keep them in a similar color family for a cohesive appearance.
5. Lighter Layers on Top: When layering, place lighter and thinner layers on top, and the heavier, bulkier items as the outermost layer. This technique avoids adding unnecessary bulk to your silhouette.
6. High-Waisted Bottoms: High-waisted pants or skirts can make your legs look longer. This is particularly flattering for petites – especially if you pair them with a heel. Style them with shorter tops or tuck in your layers to raise and highlight your waistline.
7. Layer with Accessories: Scarves, statement necklaces, and belts can add style and depth to your layers. But be mindful not to overwhelm your frame with oversized accessories. Adding a belt to your outer layers can accentuate your waist and create definition in your outfit. Try adding in bags, belts and shoes in fall colors, fabrics and prints.
8. Structured Outerwear: Look for a structured outerwear like a well-fitted blazer or a tailored coat. These pieces will help define your shape and add sophistication to your fall look.
9. Hem Length: Consider the length of your layers. Avoid tops or cardigans that are too long, as they can visually cut your body in half. Instead, aim for pieces that end at your hips or waist.
10. Comfortable Shoes: Finish your look with comfortable shoes that are in a color that matches your pants or tights. This can elongate the appearance of your legs.
Remember, the key to fall layering for petites is finding the right balance between warmth and style while keeping proportions in mind. Experiment with different combinations to discover what works best for your unique body shape and personal style. I hope this helps you get ready to see your friends and family as we enter the holiday season while looking good AND staying warm.
