I love capsule wardrobes because you get the most bang for your buck out of the least amount of clothes. You save money, time, and closet space when each item performs a number of duties. The right utility jacket is no exception. Everyone needs at least one, casual everyday jacket. This is a perfect “go to” for running errands, going to the park, or meeting up with girlfriends.
The utility or anorak jacket is one of my favorites. They are stylish and practical. Win-Win! Best of all, they have pockets, baby….lots of ’em. The pockets are a blessing ….or a curse depending on your body type, because they enlarge the area they sit on. Read below to learn how to use them to your advantage.
The difference between a utility jacket and an anorak is a true anorak (verses a fashion jacket) is waterproof and is longer in length for better protection against the elements. They are hooded and sometimes have a lining for extra warmth. If you don’t prefer a trench, the anorak is a good choice for a stylish, weather proof parka!

Hourglass
Keep it simple. Slit pockets won’t emphasize the bust or waist area (unless you want to, then add patch or flap pockets in the desired zone). Be sure to get one with a draw string to accentuate your tiny waist.
Apple
Look for a longer length, and a tie that cinches at the thinnest part of your torso. Wear it open to create a long slimming line. If you have an average bust, pockets on the top can work for you. If you have a larger chest, keep the top simple. Make sure to keep pockets at the tummy to a minimum- no patch pockets or horizontal flaps. A pear shape could also wear this well.
Pear
Look for flap or patch pockets at the bust, but beware of those at the hips. Cinch in the draw string a little at the waist for a flattering fit.
Inverted Triangle
Look for an open collar and beware of big patch pockets and flaps in the bust area. Avoid epaulettes and big shoulder pads. Use patch pockets and flaps below the waist if you have a flat tummy to balance your figure.
Column
You can pick any style, but pockets at the chest and waist area add volume and cinch in at the waist to create flattering curves.
