I’m thrilled to be co-posting with JoLynne Shane and Cyndi Spivey today. They are doing a fantastic series called “27 Days of Spring Fashion” so be sure to click over and give them some love.
I don’t know about you, but stripes are my “go to” pattern. They look great on everyone-it’s just a matter of what type of stripe to wear. They add a “chic” to any outfit. It’s a classic pattern that never goes out of style. No matter what size the “it” stripe is, I love them all.
Many people skip over stripes because of the myth that only vertical stripes make you look skinny. Good news: the opposite is true! Horizontal stripes create a single, unbroken line that fools the brain (and eyes), to gloss over the details underneath: lumps, bumps, etc. (granted the garment skims your figure versus clinging skin tight).
The skinnier the stripe, the more the eye is fooled. Generally a good rule to follow is 10 percent of the darker color to 90 percent lighter color. But, as always, it’s how the garment fits and not the placement or width of the stripes that determine if it works for you. Look until you find “the one” you love.
A striped tunic dress is a spring essential in my book. You can wear it in fall and winter with tights, leggings, jeggings, skinnies, and if it’s a tunic (shorter), you can pair it with flare leg bottoms depending on your body type. Personally, I prefer my dresses longer than fingertip length. (Boden offers a regular and longer length option-on sale now.) I also like to style this with flats and lots of bangles for a simple, everyday look.
Don’t forget to check out what JoLynne and Cyndi are styling today!
