SUMMER SUNHAT – Sunhats are an absolute summer essential if you want to keep your face healthy and young looking. No need to break the bank. I got my Kmart Floppy Summer Sunhat for $9.99. It’s a great size, not too large, but wide enough to protect my face. Today, I’m participating in a summer hat collab with Corina at Now That I Can Do That Momma and Melissa at Midwestern Melissa.Â
Summer Sunhat
This blouse can be worn both off and on the shoulder. I’ve never worn bell sleeves before because they seem fussy, but these ones hit right at the elbow and don’t get in the way of cooking, cleaning or changing diapers.
This would also make an excellent stylish maternity, post-partum and nursing top. It’s very flowy and forgiving in the tummy area. The collar has a super stretchy elastic band so it would be great for nursing.
The top works well for those with average to narrow shoulders and small to average busts because the gathered collar and crochet detail have a broadening affect. Those with broad shoulders would look better in a darker color with a no frills simple style.
I’m styling one of my favorite bangles: a Chloe & Isabel wrap bracelet. They offer other gorgeous colors, but I wanted something neutral to match all my outfits. I’ve been wearing it almost every day since I received it in the mail. It can also be worn as a necklace and headband. It’s a good quality piece and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
The H&M Satin Plum Skirt is so airy and light. I love how it swirls and flows when I walk; it’s very pretty and feminine. (I recommend a half slip with it.) It will transition well into fall when it’s still hot but you’re ready to wear fall colors.

COMMENT OF THE WEEK:
“Great post on a traveling wardrobe. Your pieces all go together so well – you make it look easy. I’m starting to pack for a big trip and I need all the tips I can get!” C.K. from 50 Days of No Grey
Thank you for commenting on the Summer Travel Capsule – city trip, C.K. The trick to putting together a versatile capsule is to narrow down your colors and prints. The simplest way is to select one or two prints and keep the rest coordinating neutrals. Remember that you can also mix prints to extend your options.

Love that cool summer hat. Your whole outfit looks great. Found you through Cindy and Jo Lynne. Greetings from Barbados, where we always need a summer hat!
Shannon says
Thanks Kim. I think hats are essential anywhere there is sun! xx-S
Ema says
Love the clutch!! I’m still looking for one but good to know target has cute ones.
Shannon says
Thanks Ema! Target has a lot of great accessories! xx-S
Emma says
That is a great look on you. You look amazing – stylish, but not like you’re trying too hard, just a bit different (not the usual jeans and cute top ‘mum uniform’) and the hat finishes it off beautifully, and the accessories are thought through. Very much admired! I love the idea of wearing a hat but have yet to find one that suits me… I mostly wear jeans when I’m with my two young kids so was thinking a trilby, but somehow the slim rim on those doesn’t work very well. Any ideas? I do also wear causal dresses and skirts though, so I guess maybe I’d need a different hat for those? The search continues…
Shannon says
Emma, you fashionista! I had to google “trilby,” so thanks for teaching me something new. This link had some fun “do” and “don’ts” of wearing hats. Rules on How to Wear a Hat I like the idea of a nuetral woven hat for jeans and a tee – super simple chic and mom friendsly. Have you tried a fedora, rancher or panama style hat? I think it’s all a matter of proportion, factors include: face shape, length and volume of hair. Happy hunting. Let me know when you find “the one”! xx-S

Loved this Shannon! What an affordable hat, and sooo cute. That nursing-friendly top is perfect! So fun to collab with you <3
Shannon says
Thanks Corina! Touche, we will have to do it again sometime. You’re rocking the maternity style right now!!!

I have just come across your fashion blog and I am loving it. I am SO encouraged to find someone who shops at some of the places I would shop. Nordstrom, Macy’s etc. are not places that I can often afford to buy my wardrobe (I am a consignment/thrift store kinda gal). Thank you for sharing the great fashion that can be found at “regular” stores for us financially challenged gals. Blessings!
Shannon says
Hi Connie, I’m so glad you stopped by. I’m a budget shopper/blogger and *most* items I post are under $100. I also love consignment/thrift shopping. I firmly believe one does not have to spend a lot of $$$ to be stylish!! So happpy to have you! xx-S

This outfit looks great on you, Shannon! The clutch and bracelet look like they were made to go together. So glad we could collaborate again! -M
Shannon says
Hi Melissa, the bracelet does go perfectly with the clutch, doesn’t it? I’m always up for collab, just let me know. 😉 xx-S
Mica says
That is a gorgeous boho top and I really like your pleated skirt too – they both pair together nicely.
I was scrolling through the pictures thinking I had a very similar hat, then I saw the closeup picture and I’m positive it’s the very same hat, haha! Although it’s winter here and it’s stuffed at the back of my wardrobe I do wear it a lot in summer – it’s a definite summer essential! 🙂
Shannon says
Thanks for stopping by Mica. Isn’t that sunhat great? I find it’s just the right size for my head…not too big. You have great style. 🙂 xx-S
Sunshine says
This outfit is adorable! I love how the skirt could be paired with so many different tops and flatter any figure. It’s a rich, beautiful color too which goes well with the neutral shade of the shirt. What kind of undergarments do you wear with off the shoulder tops or similar thin-strap shirts? I have almost make it work with bra-less options, so I would imagine that many women do the same if they are not large chested. This is definitely one of my favorite posts!!
Shannon says
I usually wear strapless undergarments for tank tops and this off the shoulder style. 🙂 xx-S
Katya says
What a lovely look, Shannon! I love how you styled that romantic off-the-shoulder top! Also, considering the weather a pretty sunhat like the one you are wearing is a must!

Such a lovely look! I love the flowy skirt with the off the shoulder top. And the crochet details are so pretty on the top. You look adorable in your sun hat! I am always envious of women who look so great in hats. I have a giant head and hats tend to draw attention to it and that is not so flattering for me! Or I just can’t find hats that fit my big noggin so well! So hats are one accessory I just admire on others! You look fabulous!
Thank you for linking up with me On the Edge of the Week. I hope to see you again next Friday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for the kind words Shelbee. Hats can be challenging. I have the opposite problem, I find that most of them are too big for me but this Kmart one just happened to fit. Usually I’m swimming in the hat or put my hair up in it to give me more volume. 🙂 You always look great on your blog!! xx-S
Amber says
Shannon! What a find! Can’t believe that hat was only $10 at K-Mart. I bought an almost identical one from Von Maur like a week ago!! It was more than $10… so I’m like WTH!? Lol! I definitely love sun hats because they are protective but they also look adorable and certainly top off an outfit :o)

LOVE your outfit. I’m so bad with hats though OMG. I love them, love the way they look and will even wear them but for some reason, they don’t last on my head for over an hour haha.
