Spring 10X10 Recap

With a little planning and a lot of creativity putting together a mini capsule wardrobe is fun AND a great time saver! You don’t include accessories, jackets/coats or work out clothes. (We all know how well accessories can transform a look. For this challenge, I kept my accessories minimal, but next time I’ll try to add more variety with necklaces, scarves, etc.) You can do it! The hardest part was slimming down to 10 pieces.  First, I checked the weather + my schedule and saw rainy days ahead so started with shoes: ankle booties (good for light rain) and the lace up block heels (perfect with jeans or dresses). I also had a ladies brunch and a baby shower on the calendar so I made sure to grab a versatile dress. (I also prefer to wear a dress on Sunday to church.)

Next, I added my favorite go-to’s: tie front tee, black ponte pants, Rockstar jeans. Then, I looked for two tops that I noticed I wasn’t wearing and included the tiered top and the Joie silk blouse. Finally, I selected a versatile layer the long cardigan. It looks great with pants and the dress!

They key to putting a small capsule together is to select items that are versatile but unique. I.E. black pants and light colored jeans. They have different colors and fabrications which provide a variety of options even though their silhouettes are similar. They’re also neutral colors that coordinate easily with all my tops. Each of the tops have a different color, silhouette, and fabrication. They have characteristics that make them distinctive, like a silk fabric, a tiered ruffle design, or a not so basic tee in a trendy loose cut with a tie front detail.

Narrowing down to 10 pieces made getting dressed a breeze. Less options makes putting an outfit together easy – especially because I didn’t have to think if the tops and bottoms + the layer would coordinate! I kept the 10 items hanging on the back of my bedroom door (on a hook rack) and every morning simply selected from a pre-selected few pieces!

The only challenge I faced was having to laundry more frequently. I’m an active person (mom of 3) so I usually only get one wear out of tops (and sometimes bottoms) and had to wash my favorite black tee a couple of times. Overall, I’m thrilled with the concept and would love to try this again in summer.
