The trick to doubling up on denim is to mix the colors and weights of the textures. Go for a contrast. For example, a light colored chambray shirt combines well with dark denim pants. You want it to look obvious that you’re rockin the denim on denim, versus “you got dressed in the dark and mistook your chambray top for a different button up”.
Roll up the cuffs to show your ankles and some arms so you don’t look like a huge bolt of fabric. This is a great outfit to accessorize with pops of color.
A safe bet is to stick to just two denim pieces. But if you’re confident or just super brave, add shoes with denim accents or a denim handbag to rule that look.
I love this statement necklace sold by Duct Tape and Denim. It’s so versatile. I find myself wearing it a lot to jazz up anything with jeans. It’s fun to wear casually. Use our special discount code GAMINE for 20% off your first purchase.
I’ve had this chambray top from JCrew Factory for about 3 years. These Wit and Wisdom Skinny jeans are my all time favorite. I wear them a couple of times a week during the colder months. They’re super soft, comfortable, and slenderizing. I couldn’t believe how skinny they made me look! Last year they were on sale for $40 in March. But they are worth paying the full price for if they are a staple item. (See them styled with a tunic sweater here.)
A chambray shirt is an all season staple. Check out these sales below. Tops starting at $14.99.

How do you personally decide when to buy something full price or when to try to wait for a sale and run the risk that size and colors will be slim?
Shannon says
It depends on the item. For something like jeans, I will pay full price up to $60.00 for a perfect fit, if I really need it. Something more expensive like a trench coat I will shop around and wait for the first sale so they don’t run out in my size. It all depends on your budget and how the garment functions in your wardrobe.

Shannon, I am Ada. So glad I found your blog. Another stylish mom and another girls’ mom too. Yeay!! Love love the elegant name of your blog, too.
I am a sucker for a good Chambray shirt and I love it paired with denim but like you said, both pieces have to feel a little bit different in shades. That crystal necklace is gorgeous and so jazzes the outfit. And nice nude booties, too. =)
I welcome you to check out my blog, too. I recently started a linkup so join me this Thursday and every Thursday. The new linkup is currently live. This outfit is too good not to be shared. Thanks, Ada. =)
