Welcome to 2020. 30 Winter Outfits Series starts today! I’m thrilled to begin the new year with a personal challenge to cultivate contentment. In November, hubby and I decided it would be best to leave my role as a Stitch Fix Stylist and focus on our family, home life, & blogging!
The week before Christmas Break, I finished up at work and styled my last client. I am SO thankful for the 3.5 years I had with Stitch and everything I learned there!
I recently read Psalm 37 which says, “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.” What a better way to start than year than with doing good, cultivating faithfulness and contentment?
In the last 4 winters, I’ve invested in key staples including cashmere sweaters, coats, and a variety of denim styles, etc. (Our California winter is so mild that I can still wear my fall dresses and skirts.) I’m challenging myself to be content with what’s in my closet and not buy any new pieces for 30 days.
CULTIVATING CLOSET CONTENTMENT CHALLENGE
Hence this year I’m kicking Gamine & Stripes off with a “Cultivating Closet Contentment Challenge.” I’ll post 30 winter outfits from January into February wearing and styling my old pieces in new ways. My hope is that I can inspire you to love your own closet and cultivate contentment too!
Here’s the first outfit. I’ve paired my pull-on jeans from Madewell (one of two purchases I made this winter), with a cashmere sweater from Catherine Malandrino via Rack (2 years ago), similar, also similar. The camel coat is from Old Navy (2 years ago), similar. I added a little sparkle with a Target necklace similar, these sultry suede boots (fall purchase) and polished off with my bag from Paris (2016 – 10 Year Anniversary Trip.)

Such gorgeous stylish looks! I can definitely take some advice in relation to over the knee boots, I never know where to wear an outfit like this! Loving these choices.
Thanks, Katerina! I’m glad my post on 10 Easy Ways To Wear Over The Knee Boots helped you find new ways and places to wear winter footwear.

What a great idea! I love the name of your challenge, it’s what we should all do. I like to challenge myself by shopping my closet too because i do adore my wardrobe. At 66, I have learned what is best for my body, color and style, so it is a gift to walk into my closet. Looking forward to more ideas. Bless you.

Isn’t it great when we’ve done the hard work of making sure we only buy what we really need and love! Makes getting dressed so much easier too! Thank you for joining in! Have a fabulous weekend and see you on Instagram – keep up the cute outfits and those red Hunter boots!!!

I really love the idea of shopping my closet and I’ve been trying to do it more. I did get a nice gift card from TJ Maxx for Christmas, so I got some of my “missing pieces” filled in a bit and hopefully can bring my new purchases down a bit for 2020 (though I was just in Target and got a new belt just because it was cute, so I’m not off to a great start, I guess). I need to give my closet a serious weeding and see what I didn’t remember I had and either make a few new outfits using them or just get rid of them. I love this first outfit you’ve put together – you look just gorgeous in it. I love the colors together and that’s a great coat and boots. I’m glad you’ve been able to make a big decision to start 2020 and I’ll look forward to seeing how you’ve styled more of the pieces from your closet. Happy New Year!

TJ Maxx is one of my favorite discount stores. I also like to buy hair products from there because you can get good deals on salon brands. It’s really hard to resist Target because the prices are so budget friendly. I often wear belts and seem to rotate the same two so I need to look to expand my collection next month. It’s so fun to find pieces in your closet you forgot you had – great job stretching and wearing what you have! Happy weekend to you, Ruth.

This is such a great idea for a challenge! I did buy a few things in the post Christmas sales but I’m trying to be good and just enjoy what I have now – plus I have a few pieces I’m close to 30 wears with and I really want to hit that wear count on them this year so I can feature them in my 30 ways to wear monthly posts! Good luck with your challenge! 🙂
Hope that you are having a lovely weekend 🙂 It’s rainy here but the rain is so welcome!

Hi, Mica! 30 wears is amazing. I’d love to start keeping track of how much use I get out of a piece. Do you use an app like Style Book? 30 Ways to wear an item sounds fabulous. I’m looking forward to checking out those posts. Keep dry!

The coat looks very lovely on you, just like the rest of the cute outfit!

Thank you so much Layla. This coat is a favorite. It was from Old Navy so the wool isn’t as smooth as when I first got it. I’m wondering if it will start to look like a teddy coat soon. LOL.

Shopping your closet is such a great idea. It’s easy to get used to buying things, but so often we have great items in our closet already! Your outfit demonstrates that perfectly! You look fabulous and so put together!
Shannon says
Thank you, Laura! I am trying to learn to start with what I have instead of always seeking new things. It’s nice to have my closet simple and neat. One thing I love about having a capsule wardrobe. It’s a lot of work in the beginning but pays off in the end.

Love this look! I am in the process of shopping my closet as well!
Thanks for linking up with me 🙂 I hope you will join me every Wednesday!

It’s it gratifying to shop your closet and find new ways of wearing old favorites. It makes me feel like I am getting good use out of my clothes.

Shannon, this is such a great outfit. It goes to show that classic pieces really are timeless. I have been trying to shop my closet way more and not buy too much new stuff. I have too much already! Although I did buy some new things in the fall and winter, but most of it was thrifted. I am just trying to do my part to be a little more environmentally aware in my shopping choices. I love this idea of sharing 30 outfits shopped from your closet. Wishing you all the best with your new year goals! Thanks so much for joining my link party.

Thanks, Shelbee! I wear this coat often. It’s so stylish over jeans so it’s become a favorite over the last couple of fall and winters. Thrifted finds are such a thrill!!
