Hello! If you’re like me, you’re ready to dive into fall fashion now that the kids are back in school. It’s the perfect time to refresh our wardrobes and embrace the new season!
I’ve been flipping through my Vogue magazine, getting inspired and deciding what my fall style will look like. As I explore the latest trends, I want to share what I will NOT be investing in this fall.
This is not just about trends; it’s about understanding fashion and choosing what works best for you. Personal style is about creating a unique look that represents who you are, not just following every trend.
When you don’t dress in a way that feels good, it can really hold you back. An outdated closet can make you feel frumpy, which affects your confidence and how you enjoy life. It can impact your career, social life, and relationships. If you don’t feel bold and confident, it’s hard to express yourself and be taken seriously. This can lead to feelings of unworthiness or even cause you to withdraw socially.
Especially as petites, we often get overlooked. There’s a strong connection between how we dress and our confidence, and research supports this idea.
Now, let’s jump into my process by discussing the trends I’m skipping this season and why.
Denim Maxi Skirts
The denim maxi skirt has been trending for the past few years, but I believe it has reached its peak and is now on the decline. While it’s everywhere in stores, I find these skirts to be heavy and constricting, especially for a petite frame. I prefer styles that allow for more movement and comfort.
Bubble Hems
Next, we have the bubble top. While it may look cute on others, I find it unflattering for most body types. As a petite stylist, I prefer pieces that skim the body and showcase shape rather than widen the silhouette. Bubble skirts or dresses can feel too girly for my taste, and I aim for chic and sleek styles that are practical and versatile.
Barrel Jeans
Lastly, the barrel jeans trend is something I’m passing on. These wide-leg pants can be too bulky for a shorter frame, making them difficult to wear. While style is personal, and if you love this look, go for it, I believe it’s important to choose pieces that feel right for your body type.
