CLOSET REWIND
In January I did a fun “live” travel capsule series by posting my real outfits for 5 days in a row. My husband and I were in Yosemite for a long weekend sans kids, so it was the perfect setting to be able to do a quick photo every day. Above are the outfits I posted that week.
Even though it’s still officially winter, I started transitioning to spring. I wanted to do a quick reflection on “last” season, highlight my winter capsule favs, and share two lessons I learned.
The winter pastel trend worked out great for me. I had a “blush”silk tunic shirt and pink boatneck sweater that happen to be spot on with the 2016 color of the year: Rose Quartz. They transition perfectly into spring and I currently wear them with lighter colored jeans. (The sweater and tunic shirt are shown layered below.)
Another surprising winner was my oatmeal tunic sweater from JCrew Factory. I’ve worn and styled it more than I thought I would. It’s such a great basic to wear alone or layered.
I also LOVEed my military vest. It goes great over a tee or a sweater. The pockets are so useful. You can stick you hands in from the side under the pocket as well-genius design. I often wore this over a sweater in lieu of a jacket in our mild California winter.
Pants-wise, the ponte pants, pictured above (black and merlot), my Wit and Wisdom rinse skinny jeans (pictured below), and slim boyfriend jeans were the everyday favs.
As much as I like skinny pants, boyfriend jeans are a great break from skinny pants overload. (Did I just say that? Is there such a thing?) Varying your silhouette, even if it’s a slight change, can keep boredom at bay.
The biggest trick I learned this season was to match your shoes to your pants or tights. This makes your legs look longer. For a shortie like me, (I’m just under 5.4 ft) that’s money!!
I loved my winter capsule. I had about 35 items including shoes and surprisingly it almost felt as if there were too much clothes! I hardly wore my houndstooth coat, striped turtle neck, white and gray block tee, long sleeve printed tee, or flannel shirt dress. I was big into the simplicity of sweaters and jeans with ankle boots or flats. It’s wonderful to know I can downsize even more next year!!!

Thanks Stacey! You’re so sweet. I LOVE my military vest and wear it every season except summer! It’s such a fantastic layering piece. You need to get some white pants so I can learn new ways of styling them on your blog!!! xxx
