WHAT TO WEAR AFTER 40
Stop constantly binging on low-quality or cheap trendy pieces in an attempt to quickly refresh your closet. INSTEAD prioritize investing in a select few standout items, such as an embroidered evening coat or a designer suit crafted from elevated quality fabric with impeccable detailing.
Steer clear of overly ruffly and frilly garments.
INSTEAD try feminine puff sleeves or a tired skirt, they exude a fresh and sophisticated vibe rather than being too girly.
Avoid matronly shapeless suits in pastel colors. Unless you’ve recently undergone a color analysis that aligns with pastels, opt for brighter shades and experiment with color psychology to enhance your wardrobe.
Cut out a classic only aesthetic, as this can inadvertently age your look.
INSTEAD, infuse your style with a touch of edge by incorporating trendy pieces such as a croc bag, embellished heels, or a leather blazer while maintaining a foundation of classic staples.

WHAT TO WEAR AFTER 50
Don’t try to wear exactly what everyone else is wearing.
INSTEAD, dress to accentuate with your personality not what’s in fashion head to toe.
Don’t Wear Boring, Classic Accessories.
DO go for a chunky necklace or signature cuff has more impact than a string of pearls or tennis bracelet. You don’t want to dress like Queen Elizabeth, her style was hot for the 30’s and 40’s. (Even she had an episode of struggling with her “middle aged” marmy style and had massive anxiety meeting Jackie O in Dear Mrs. Kennedy in Season 2 ) Splurge on unique interesting, personality or statement pieces. Wear things that are unique and different.
Don’t overdo it with too many accessories, clashing prints and colors. This will overwhelm your body and look complicated and confusing. Especially as a petite.
INSTEAD dress for impact. As a petite you can still make an positive impact with your dress. Monochromatic outfits and color blocking are always a wise and ageless choice. They look decisive and dramatic.
Don’t wear outdated casual pieces. This will make you look old and frumpy.
INSTEAD, make sure to keep you casual items current. Look for coordinated pieces in fabrics that layer and travel well. Try a fun statement bracelet, watch, leather sneakers or cashmere hoodie. Just remember to scale. If you are fine boned a huge watch or chunky cuff will look ridiculous. You need to scale to your body.

WHAT TO WEAR AFTER 60 AND BEYOND
Don’t skimp out. Elegance becomes you. It’s time to splurge.
Don’t wear trendy styles from 5 years ago. Do not wear pre-pandemic silhouettes.
INSTEAD look for modern cuts, go looser. Put those skinny jeans away. Update your distressed denim unless “edgy” is your main style. You want to keep the cut of your pants and jackets more figure flattering and of the moment.
Don’t wear items that are too loose or too big. The looser relaxed style is in, but too loose looks sloppy. There is a fine line between stylish and sloppy.
Don’t overdo basic solids in flat fabrics. Super boring and keeps you invisible.
Don’t over do animal prints or tweed — they will age you faster than a banana in a brown bag. You need a tasteful balance. A little shine can flatter your skin.
INSTEAD go for tasteful luxe looks that are not overdone i.e. fur trim or brocade is right for you now. (Those are great accents not head to toe or risk looking like a caricature.) Watch out for too much animal print on your petite body. You want to look chic not like a “cougar.”
Don’t show too much skin. Cover when you have to. You know if you can still show off those legs or not. Keep your arms toned or wear a chic wrap or elbow sleeves.
Avoid being too pale. Add some color with a tanner, tanned skin tends to look slimmer and hide dimples better, and gives you a healthy glow.
