I love maxi skirts because they are so feminine and can cover up if you haven’t had time to take care of business in the leg department.
I confess I’ve had this skirt for two years but haven’t worn it as much as I thought I would. Several weeks ago I tripped walking down the stairs in it. I usually wear it to church on Sunday or on a day when I’m not active with the kids.
This was a very comfy travel outfit for a 6 hour car trip my husband and I took down to LA for a wedding. I’ve been getting compliments on my maxi skirt outfits lately so thought I would share how I style them. I got 3 or 4 compliments wearing this one.
I’ve found maxi skirts tricky to wear. Of the two current trends, mid-drift crop top or tuck in and bloused (pulled out a little), I definitely prefer the later! Blousing it out can look good even if you don’t have a washboard stomach or want to hide the “too much dinner” effect if you feel slightly bloated.

Other ways to wear a maxi skirt:
1. with a tank top tucked in
2. with a button down shirt tucked in (or knotted), sleeves rolled up
3. with a tee shirt knotted at the side
4. with a cropped top that hits the top of the waistline
I wear a belt with my maxi skirt for two reasons. 1. This one doesn’t have an elastic waistband. As the day wears on, it starts to slide down. 2. I am short waisted so the light colored belt elongates my torso. (If you had a long torso and wanted to wear a belt, match your skirt color.)

Shannon, this was a great post! You look lovely, I like your hat. I’d love a hat like that, not sure I dare wear it out though 😉
I bought a navy maxi skirt earlier this year, and was planning on wearing it with T-shirt type tops that are gently tailored at the waist. I didn’t think of wearing it with blouses, tucking those in and then ‘blousing out’. Tried this today and now I’ve got two more lovely outfit options, so thanks. Getting much more use out of my pieces that way. I won’t wear a belt though – that might sound weird but it seems to work. Belts don’t seem to suit me that well somehow. Or maybe it’s just habit.

Hi Emma, sorry for the delayed response. For some reason your comment got sent to spam and I just caught it.
Don’t you think maxi skirts are great for spring, when it’s still a little cold, but you want to wear something feminine and flowy? If my maxi skirt had an elastic waist band I would also wear it without a belt, but because has a fold over top, it tends to slide down as the day wears on. LOL. Best, xx-S
