Let’s have a heart to heart about the mummy tummy. I know most of us beat ourselves up over the mummy tummy-at least once or twice, maybe every day. But let’s step back from the mirror a second, and lift your eyes up and onto the wonderful gift or gifts that pudgy tum-tum gave us.
Would you trade back your old stomach for ANY of those giggles and smiles, pudgy dimples & snuggles? No, of course not! Unless you’re on your 4th week in a row of sleep deprivation, holding a screaming, colicky baby, and reading this at 3am … you’re probably not tempted to trade in precious babes for the pre-pregnancy washboard stomach.
That mummy tummy deserves a little respect after what she’s done-for you and for your family. She held in precious, irreplaceable life. She stretched herself beyond limits we thought possible! Realistically, what would you expect her to look like after all she did to hold in new, growing life? That doesn’t change the fact that my stomach is not as smooth or flat as it used to be, or that it slightly resembles a chunky, wrinkly, elephant leg with a belly button, but it does give me a better perspective on the extra inches!
If you’ve given birth to any number of children, each one was a miracle! What your body did to grow life was a miracle. That mummy tummy deserves a little thanks and respect! Love is sacrifice and if your body was spent to give others life, it has earned its right as a mummy tummy! And love is the most beautiful look in the world!
Thankfully for us who spend our days feeding, cleaning, caring for others, and have little or no time for personal care, i.e. dieting and exercising-the new look is a more relaxed, looser fit! It’s a lot easier to find tops that gracefully drape over mummy tummy or should I say mummy-love!
In winter, a looser sweater over pants is a great way to dress the “fertile” figure. I like the visual interest of knit texture in this oatmeal tunic sweater. Using a patterned scarf on top and fun shoes are another way to divert eyes from the midsection. The slouchy boots add a little personality to the outfit.
