Stylist Notes: Mastering The Simple Chic Look

  1. Get the best haircut you can afford. Sometimes that’s all you need to refresh your look and feel amazing.
  2. Wear a hairstyle that makes you look and feel beautiful despite what you see on magazine covers and blogs.
  3. Style isn’t about having every hair in place and being dressed to a “T”; rather, it’s being comfortable in your own skin and threads.
  4. To build your style, incorporate the “CBS” rule: All you really need is a good Coat, Bag and Shoes.
  5. Invest in year round, neutral classic items like a leather purse and good pumps (nude and black).
  6. You do not need to wear designer labels to be stylish or have style.
  7. Skip trends that don’t work for you.
  8. A true woman of style can find something in ANY store, Kmart or Neiman Marcus.
  9. Dress according to your own taste, not just what you see in magazines or blogs.
  10. Ultimately wear what is comfortable and what looks good on you, not the model on the magazine cover.

    Shannon, this is such a beautiful classic and timeless look! You are so right about finding style that suits you and it doesn’t have to break the bank. Recently, I have been getting into thrifting more and I am finding some fabulous items in my local Salvation Army for next to nothing. And it’s so much fun to dig through the racks and search for those hidden gems!

    Love that dress on you and agree with you on that simple chic look. Having just returned from Paris, I can tell you that that style is the trend there. The women in France dress so simply but classic chic and they always look great.

        It was just a few days at the end of our family trip, but I’m glad we were able to go there. I’m working on a post about the fashion, but the women look so put together. I would describe them as chic, classic and yet the look is so simple. Basic pieces, but good quality. I saw a lot of dark jeans in a cigarette style, ballet flats, white top, scarf, blazer or cardigan. Your dress would have fit in perfectly!

    I love tip 8! So, so, so true. Another thing I am learning is to take care of my items. I starting buying nice pumps (tip 5) and I keep them in the boxes instead of just throwing them in with the rest of my shoe drawer.
