HOW TO WEAR YOUR SUMMER DRESS IN FALL — The last couple of days it’s finally felt like fall in my small suburban corner of the SF Bay Area and I’m ready for dark jeans, cozy sweaters & fun scarfs! The other week, I found two fabulous “summer dresses” for my fall capsule. (It doesn’t get cold here till the end of October into November!)
For those of us who have temperatures into the 80’s or 90’s this week (Arizona anyone?) stay cool by pairing above the knee dresses with cute booties. I recently acquired these during an online Anthropologie sale and am OBSESSED! They are perfect for styling with the flowy baby doll style 90’s flashback) dresses that have been popping up. I like this dress style for fall because you can wear it now with bare legs and later with tights!
Silent D “Tyrek” Anthropologie
This above the ankle lenght works well for a shorter dress because it covers more of your legs. The chunkier style also looks great with a flowy and/or wider dress. Getting just the right amount of leg showing can be tricky. Longer legs would fare better with a higher shaft – think cowboy boot length.
TREND ALERT: Cowboy style details are a fashion forward trend this season! So dust off those cowboy boots at the back of your closet and pair them with your skirts and dresses this fall.
The leather is so soft and molded to my foot within a couple of wears. I struggle to find shoes that fit my wide feet so when I saw this came in a wide, I snagged the last pair in my size!
Anthropologie Silent D Booties//Target Floppy Boho Hat//Similar Circle Purse//Amazon Fitbit Rose Gold Band
The Target Floppy Boho HAT is great for keeping your face out of the sun as well as keeping you dry in light rain.
This LBD is great for fall because you can team it with tights + tall boots when the weather cools down. Here are a couple more budget-friendly LBDs with a similar look. Add a long leopard cardigan, wrap coat or a moto jacket to create various looks. You can wear it to church, on date night, out to brunch with girlfriends, to a bridal or baby shower….the possbilities are endless!
Comment of the week comes from FOTINI:
Shannon, thanks for all the great info, always nice to see your styling expertise in real clothes for real women. Do you have a good online site so I can figure out my body shape?
Thank you, Fontini. I always love hearing from you. It’s always important to find an LBD that works best for your body shape not matter what the trends are. I found this easy online body shape calculator. Enter your measurements and it will tell you at the top what your shape is. See my summer body shape capsules (APPLE, PEAR, HOURGLASS, PEAR INVERTED TRIAGLE) to learn what dress best fits your shape – no matter what the season.
How would you wear this dress? I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Hey Shannon! It was so great to hear from you. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog yesterday! I was just thinking about you recently because I came across some of your content on Pinterest. You’ve made some really fantastic graphics. 🙂 You are looking beautiful here – love your hair! And your dress + boots combo is warm climate fall perfection. I have a similar pair of boots but this post is making wish they had a bit of a shorter shaft so they’d pair better with dresses.
