Today I’m styling black and brown together. When I first reviewed the pics for Outfit #3 of the Winter Outfits challenge, I didn’t love it. I added the conductor hat (from Target 3 years ago) and it pulled the whole thing together for me. Hats are one of my favorite accessories for winter because I have thin hair. They keep my head warm + save time on bad hair days.
TIPS TO WEARING BLACK AND BROWN
1. Keep the shades similar to keep the look cohesive.
2. Focus on mixing neutral hues rather than adding pops of bright color. (See how I used black, brown & white?)
3. Match your accessories by keeping casual with casual and dressy with dressy. This is a casual outfit with slightly dressier shoes and a classic crossbody bag. I didn’t pair black sneakers with a fancy purse.
Because I’m petite, I try to wear black shoes with black jeans to make my legs look longer – especially with these Madewell cropped kick flares.
Combat boots are hot this year, but I like this lace-up style bootie better. I noticed them featured by a couple of french designers so I was thrilled to find these by Lucky at DSW! They also look really cute with dresses and have a vintage feel to them.
To be honest, I’m still trying to figure out how to wear them. They look great with flare jeans and dresses. So far I haven’t loved them with skinnys…

I love stripes, its actually my favorite pattern/print. Your top is super cute and it looks great with the cropped jeans.
Stripes are my favorite as well, Nora! Thank you for stopping in. I love the outfits posted on Jacket Society as well as the amazing styles of blazers you feature.

Thanks, Jill. I’ve had these cropped flares for several years and wasn’t sure if I was thrilled about them this season. I’m making myself appreciate what I have so hoping to style them more and learn to love them again.

Last year I really learned to appreciate wearing black and brown together. Since I gravitate towards neutrals, I noticed I have quite a big of black and beige in my closet! Always love your link ups, Shelbee!
