Is it worth it to resell your clothes online?
Have you ever wondered if it’s worth trying to resell your clothes?
Most people only wear 20% of all the clothes in your wardrobe!
That means you probably have clothes in your closet that you no longer wear. Instead of dropping off your old clothes off at a local thrift store, consider decluttering your space and earn some extra cash by reselling your clothes!
I know what you’re thinking – seems like too much work or it’s overwhelming.
That’s why we’re here to help!
Pinky Chong, upcycle specialist with 10 years of experience, shared some great tips to help you get started in our chat above. She even shared a free resource to maximize your reselling experience here: FREE GUIDE TO RESELLING CLOTHES
Pinky’s Expert Tips to Reselling
- Platforms: Pinky recommends Poshmark as a resell platform, but you can also start with eBay if you prefer. I’ve had good experiences with ThreadUP. Try to stick to one platform in the beginning.
- A Pictures is Worth a Thousand Words! Take clear pictures in a clean, well lit background. Include the measuring tape on the item to prevent returns.
- Descriptions: Write the description as if you didn’t include any pictures. Make the descriptions fun and of course, don’t forget to include measurements.
- Pricing: Go with your gut or Google the item on different resale platforms to see how much it’s going for. Start higher because you can always lower the price later.
- Bundling: Maximize the value of your items by bundling similar items together. Take a photo of the bundle and post it as one item. This can be done for accessories or clothing items that look good together.
- Returns: If your buyer wants to return an item, only do transactions through the platform (don’t give your address or any personal information). There are lots of scammers so beware!
How to Get Started Selling Clothes Online At Home
- Start an account on your chosen platform.
- Wash everything (but be careful with fabrics like leather, silk, etc.).
- Take pictures, upload them, and write a description.
- Buyers can buy now or they may try to negotiate a price with you.
- After a buyer purchases your item, you will receive an email from the platform (e.g. Poshmark) to print the label and put it on the packaging.
Make some money back on the clothes you bought that are just sitting in your wardrobe to update your closet for a new season, invest, pay for a vacation or simply save for a rainy day. Plus, it’s better for the environment by giving your clothes a second life instead of letting them end up in a landfill.
