HOW TO START STYLING OUTFITS
4 Essential Elements of a well constructed outfit are:
COLOR
PRINT
TEXTURE
SHINE
The first element I selected is color or print. You need at least 1 of these for an interesting outfit. The lady jacket is a huge trend that many women are drawn to, but almost all are struggling to style. The key is to remember this little tweed number is a statement piece. It has print, color and texture.
Build the outfit around it by supporting it and starting with a basic neutral knit layer underneath. If it is multi colored, you can pair a base top or bottom in coordinating color. In this case, I kept it simple and chic with white and blue to match the jacket.
The second most important tip to styling the lady jacket is to pair it with the most up-to-date, modern style of jeans to keep it fresh and young vs. marmy. We “shined” it up with the fabulous square statement earrings accented with a diamond stud.
A fun printed item like this striped sweater is a super versatile anchor you can build multiple outfits around. You can dress it up with the trendy double breasted jacket or just pair it with your favorite jeans.
You can wear it with colored skirts or pants! A great wardrobe staple you can mix and match infinitely. WIN WIN For this piece we used a denim double breasted jacket for texture and hammered triangle hoop earrings for shine.
Who doesn’t love a One & Done? I’m a huge fan of the dress outfit because there is less thinking and coordinating. And it’s even better when the dress is printed because that checks off the color element too.
We modernized this look by adding the textured sweater tied on top of the denim jacket because the preppy look is hot for spring. You could also ditch the jacket and just tie the sweater around your shoulders as well.
Add some shine with a layered necklace. I also added a belt to this dress for a walk-in customer who was looking for a last minute Valentine’s Day outfit.
