Spring is a time for new beginnings, and what better way to embrace the season than with fresh, stylish outfits? If you’re a petite woman, you might be wondering how to make the latest fashion trends work for you. In this post, we’ll explore some of the top spring fashion trends for 2023 and provide tips on how to wear them to flatter your figure.
This video was first shared in the Petite Style Society. Watch the video to hear more petite body shape tips and how to wear upcoming spring trends!
Cargo Pants
Cargo pants are back in style, and they’re a fun retro choice. Look for styles that are full length as these will help elongate your legs. Pair them with a tucked-in blouse or a fitted top to balance out the loose fit of the pants. If you have a flat stomach and defined waist, like an hourglass shape or a triangle shape, a full tuck or front tuck will look great. The wider legs style can be tricky – these are easiest to wear for oval/apple shapes – or anyone with super slim hips. Look for a slim pair if you are curvy. You can also add some height with a pair of heels or wedges.
Sheer Layering
Sheer fabrics are a big trend for spring 2023, and they can add a touch of elegance to any outfit. When it comes to sheer layering, less is more for petite women. Look for sheer tops or blouses that are fitted or have some structure, rather than loose and flowy. Layer them with a camisole tank for coverage, and balance out the sheer fabric with a pair of tailored pants or a skirt. Make it dressy casual with denim. You can also do a tunic style with skinny jeans.
White Shoes
White shoes are a versatile and stylish option for spring, but they can be tricky to pull off if you’re petite. Look for styles that have a pointed toe or a low-cut vamp, as these will help elongate your legs. You can also choose white shoes with a block heel or a wedge, as these will provide some height without sacrificing comfort. Pair them with white bottoms to elongate your leg line.
Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts made a big appearance on the spring 2023 runways! You will see all sorts of styles – from denim to pleated, satin fabrics, and sheer fabrics – currently in store. I personally am so excited they are back in style for spring because they are fabulous for making us petites look longer and leaner!
Look for skirts that fall just above the ankle or that have a high-low hemline, as these will show off your shoes and provide some visual interest. Style them with a fitted top to balance out the volume of the skirt. You can also add a belt to accentuate your waist and create a focal point.
Nipped-in-the-Waist Blazers
For those of you who are tired of the super wide and loose blazers that don’t flatter, you can sing hallelujah because a more fitted figure flattering style is back!
It’s about time!
Blazers that nip in at the waist or cinched styles are a great option for petite women, as they create a flattering silhouette. Look for blazers with a single button or a wrap style. These will help define your waistline. Pair them with high-waisted pants or a skirt to elongate your legs and create a balanced look.
These are best for hourglass, triangle/pear and creating a waistline for some rectangle shapes.
SUMMARY:
To wrap it up, spring 2023 is all about fresh, stylish looks that flatter your figure. Whether you’re wearing cargo pants, sheer layers, white shoes, maxi skirts, or cinched-waist blazers, remember to choose styles that fit well and balance out your figure.

I would not wear maxi skirts, too long and too much material for my small body but I am buying petite clothes and enjoy the fit!! Wht a difference!!

I love cargo pants and maxi skirts! I’m 5’ 3” and a slim hourglass but self conscious about my very white legs in summer, so the longer lengths work well for me. As always, thank you so much for the good information!

Great video Shannon! Thank you! I love Cargo pants! I have a couple of pairs and will pos pic to see what you think about the fit. I also love Maxi skirts (need help finding the right style/fit) and nipped in waist blazers. I do not have any sheer layering pieces but will definitely try. Not crazy about white shoes but would trying to wear with white pants.

I’ve been wearing maxi skirts forever, glad to hear I won’t be alone (until they fall out of fashion again). IMO, cargo pants are terrific to wear, but they’ll always be ugly. Every woman has to make her own decision balancing Form vs. Function in clothing. I rejected high heels and skirts above the knee decades ago, and I have never regretted that choice.
