The boyfriend, slouchy or oversized style blazer has been on the rise the last couple of years. I wrote about it last fall here as one of the 3 Fall Styles Your Closet Needs that will carry you through the season in style. I’ve also written about how to find the right blazer for your body shape.
STYLE TIPS For a BOYFRIEND BLAZER
- Layer it over a fitted or straight fit top. Try a tuck-in style to add structure to this looser style of the blazer for a slimming effect. (Otherwise, it might look a little frumpy.)
- If your blazer is a longer tunic style, try it with skinny jeans or jeggings. In this case, you can also play around with a looser (not too billowy) top, untucked.
- Experiment with looser cut jeans or trousers in a more relaxed fit like a straight leg, boy/girlfriend or flare. Some will work with a flowy wide-leg style. (Think pants suit.)
- Since the boyfriend blazer is a little longer, wear pants with a longer inseam to avoid looking shorter – especially if you are petite. Heels are always a great addition.
- Keep the top and jeans in classic styles with simple clean lines if the jacket is printed since the blazer is a “statement” piece, it can easily overwhelm or look too busy when paired with other prints.

Comment of the Week from Gina at On The Daily Express on my post: How to Wear A Summer Dress in Fall:
Hey Shannon! … I was just thinking about you recently because I came across some of your content on Pinterest. You’ve made some really fantastic graphics. 🙂 You are looking beautiful here – love your hair! And your dress + boots combo is warm climate fall perfection. I have a similar pair of boots but this post is making wish they had a bit of a shorter shaft so they’d pair better with dresses.
Thank you Gina, I’ve always admired how you can create fresh looks from staple pieces. You are a master at accessorizing!

Aw, well thanks for the kind feature today! And I have to say, not only do you have great graphics, but you also have a gift for explaining those style strategies and the “how” to make things work. I really wish I could be better at that! Regardless, I’m loving plaid jackets of all kinds this fall, and your blazer is no exception here.
