Several weeks ago we had a heart to heart/pep talk/pact not to beat ourselves up over the mummy tummy. Once I embraced the NEW ME, the one with the extra inches around the middle and ample padding in the back, it was time to learn how to dress the new me. Let’s face it, the new me is a BETTER, more loved version of me. I have a mini fan club of three that swirl around me all day. Who doesn’t love that?
Let’s gracefully accept the fact that those “__ ” sized jeans are long gone. Chin up….that doesn’t mean we can’t look leaner, trimmer, longer, taller…. With a couple tricks in your closet: heels, slenderizing pants, tops, etc., you can still look in the mirror without that “hmpfff…if only….” waste of negative thinking energy!
Meet your new, looser, mummy tummy skimming besties! Gone are the days of skin tight tee shirts (THANK YOU-only children under 10 looked good in those!) Welcome in the shift dress and tie-waist tunic/top!
These looser style garments draw attention away from the midsection. You don’t want your clothes too loose or baggy-it causes a bad widening effect, but tops or dresses that skim your broadest parts can flatter and make you appear leaner and longer (yes, please!).
The shift dress gently skims over the midsection giving you a nice long, leaner silhouette. Heavy fabrics like the knit on the right also help camouflage extra inches.
These looser styles do a great job of hiding that extra stubborn weight around the midsection we work so hard to lose. These flowy tops and dresses make you feel pretty and feminine. Make sure the tie or gathering hits at the slimmest part of your waist and isn’t too tight, but rather gracefully cinches in at the right spot. These longer pieces will give you the appearance of a long, slim shape-especially if you go monochromatic and wear a similar color bottom, like leggings or jeans.
The long vertical design and gorgeous details of this shift dress with a v-neckline draws the eye upwards to your beautiful face and away from the mummy tummy. The looser style is also so comfy. Wear it with your favorite nude, black, or pop of color sandals or heels for a playdate or date night.
With the right style threads, the new you can look just as gorgeous, just as confident as before! You rock it Mommy!!
