How easy is it for you to put together spring outfits from your wardrobe?
Imagine grabbing 2-3 pieces from your closet. They fit well. You look amazing. No thinking involved. Above all, there’s no wasted space, time, or money. This is why I love creating wardrobe capsules.
What is a Wardrobe Capsule?
A wardrobe capsule is a select amount of clothing, (I use 7 or 9 pieces) that effortlessly mix and match. However, each piece can be worn 5 or more ways and creates 14-20 + beautiful, fun, and versatile looks. Each season, these wardrobe capsules build on each other to create the perfect seasonal closet. Efficient. Intentional. Sustainable.
How to create a Spring Capsule in 5 steps
- Decide on a number. 7 or 9 is a great start.
Depending on how minimal or how much variety you prefer, I work with 7 or 9 pieces. - Select a color palette.
Less is more – narrow down to 2 neutrals + 1 color. Or 1 neutral + 2 colors. These need to coordinate. - Work in groups of 3.
To create a diversity of looks and exciting outfits, choose a variety of styles. For each category of clothes chose: one basic neutral, one color, one print. Aim for 2-3 different silhouettes or cuts within each category. - Select Tops, Bottoms, Second Layers
Start with your favorites or your hardest areas to fit. Bottoms are my hardest area to fit so for this spring capsule, I chose dark skinnys, printed pants, and mom jeans. I picked 2 favorites (camo pants and dark skinnies). Then I added the mom jeans because I noticed I wasn’t wearing them and wanted to get better use out of these pants.
Next, I moved to tops and selected 2 neutral pieces + 1 printed style. The camel cardigan can be worn multiple ways, buttons in the front or back, open or closed over a tank/cami. Try to incorporate as many multi-functional items as possible.
Last, I decided to choose 1 second layer. Adding two others will create even more looks! But for this post, I wanted to keep it simple. (I don’t mind wearing the same jacket over and over.) - Accessorize
Shoes and accessories give your outfits personality, fun, and excitement. Swap out the shoes, earrings, and a necklace or headband and you have a completely different look!

What a cute video. Love those camo pants.

Hi Nancy, I wear those camo pants a ton. The print makes them fun and elevates a tee shirt to a more pulled together look. Thanks for stopping by!

Love that you reversed the tan sweater!! So cute and clever.

Isn’t it great to have pieces you can wear multiple ways? Def a plus! Thanks for commenting!

I remember wearing the reversed sweater back in 2013. I’m definitely looking at that denim jacket.

Hi Teresa, thank you for commenting. Denim jackets are a spring staple. It’s fun to see what new styles arrive each year. I got this one last year from H&M. It’s a fun layering piece – almost like the shacket, but I like the belted style that give you more options on how to wear it. Welcome to the community!
