Have you avoided trying over the knee boots because the only way you’ve seen them is with a tight mini skirt (and would never dream of showing off that much leg)? Have no fear – there are plenty of ways to wear these trendy boots without looking like a lady of the night!
Several people have asked me about over the knee boots so I dug out mine from 2017 and poked around Instagram and Pinterest to find “conservative” ways to wear this fun winter style. Not only do they keep your legs warm, they can also elongate your figure if you know how to wear them!

Over the knee boots can be challenging to pull off because the longer length will shorten your leg line. Choosing a style with the highest heel you’re comfortable in is the easiest way to fix that. Look for a pair that is snug on your leg and comes up an inch above your knee if you’re shorter. My flat style is an everyday casual look. It’s also cute paired with a flowy tunic – boho style (scroll down for example below).
10 Easy Ways to Style Over The Knee Boots
The simplest to wear your over the knee boots is with skinny jeans and a textured sweater. (The way I’m wearing them above.) Add fun accessories like a scarf or beanie to round out the look.

Over your jeans and top, layer a three quarter length coat or blazer for a street chic vibe.
Style black over the knee boots with black jeans. Add a tunic sweater, coat + classic printed scarf for a timeless look.
If you’re going to pair over the knee boots with a dress, only let a sliver of your legs show. Tights are a great option here if you don’t want any leg showing or live in a cold climate!

Grab your favorite maxi skirt and layer it with a cozy sweater with over the knee boots to bring a warm-weather piece into winter. Try it pairing the maxi skirt with a fitted sweater plus a moto jacket for a Euro Chic edge.

Layering a plaid scarf over the tunic + jeans makes this outfit and an easy go-to you can do too! Don’t forget the arm candy for extra style points.

Tucking in your top will elongate your leg line and the above the knee length coat creates a long and lean silhouette. Wearing the scarf loose also puts the emphasis on the vertical.
Pair your boots with a breezy spring tunic and an oversized sweater. I love how this gal adds visual interest with the furry bag.
Add black leggings + a trench coat. It doesn’t matter what else you have on (pajama top anyone)? Just what everyone needs on a busy morning. Add a to-go cup of coffee to finish this look and snap – you’ve got Instagold!
Statement boots are anchored with a timeless printed coat in black also proving red stilettos can be worn at any age with class!

Comment of the Week is from Ruth from Vogue Faux Real on 10 Top Sweater Care Hacks You Need to Know:
These are just awesome tips to have! I have a brand new, soft sweater that I was going to get a ton of wear out of. I washed it first and it’s pilled like crazy. I’m going to get a de-piller and have at it and then I’ll remember to wash it inside out from now on (or never wash it again). And it’s great to know that there are ways to make a scratchy sweater less obnoxious! Thank you so much for sharing these!
Thank you Ruth. It makes my heart happy when I hear my friends get good use out of their threads.

i LOVE my OTK boots and am glad the trend seems to be sticking around awhile longer! I think your first look is my fave here! Chic, polished and classic!

Right! It’s crazy that people just started asking me about them. I’m not sure I even wore my last year, but will bust them out again. They feel like new! LOL

If my thighs aren’t super skinny, should I even try this trend?
Shannon says
I love this question! The only way to know for sure is to try it. Here are my thoughts. Style them like you would an outfit with black skinny jeans/leggings or tights. Opt for black over the knee boots with black fitted bottoms (skinny jeans, jeggings, tights). Try layering a tunic length top that hits the slimmest part of your thigh (not the widest). I would think of them like an extension of your leggings or tights – leggings with a shoe at the bottom.

I love the way you’ve done your look! I don’t have any OTK boots and I’m not sure I’ll be getting any, even though I’m tempted to try them (at some age you start wondering if it’s age-appropriate and I’m there pretty much). I do have some knee boots, though, and I just really don’t wear them enough. But you’ve given me some ideas for them because they’re pretty tall and I think they’d look great with jeans and an off-white turtleneck that I have. Thanks so much for the inspiration and the ideas. Oh, and I’m thrilled that you picked my comment as comment of the week!

First of all, I absolutely love your outfit with that adorable chunky white sweater! You look so cozy and warm and totally chic. Second, these are some really fabulous ways to style over the knee boots. I have so many pairs of OTK boots and I think I have only worn them once or twice this season. For some reason, I have been opting for showing off more leg this winter rather than covering them with boots. But January and February are the coldest months for me, so it may be high time I start styling those OTK boots again. Thanks for the inspiration and for linking up with me, Shannon! Wishing you all the best in the New Year!
